Maya complementary health: an integrative approach

The foundation of my work is the Arvigo Technique of Maya Abdominal Massage (see massage page), and a typical session in my practice will integrate many complementary modalities. As we work together, I respond to the present need and, within your comfort level, I incorporate: aromatherapy, trigger point therapy, myofascial release, lymphatic massage, reflexology, and polarity therapy (to name a few), creating a seamless dance of caring, therapeutic touch and compassionate listening. We will also look at the possibility of enhancing your well being with dietary guidance, exercise and other self help, and herbal supplements - many that are specific to the region of the Maya - (see herbals page). I will give referrals to excellent traditional and western medicine practitioners when needed.

I have a passion and affinity for working with Women's Health. As a retired midwife and dancer, I have brought my educational and professional paths to converge at the intersection called Maya Abdominal massage. As I integrate the knowledge of my lifetime with the knowledge of an ancient healing art, I have the pleasure of affecting true positive change for women in ill health.

As a practitioner of Maya Abdominal Massage (MAM), I have the good fortune to assist women in healing their own bodies of the symptoms of reproductive and digestive ailments. My clients have come to me seeking relief from difficult periods (including excessive bleeding, pain, and irregular cycles) as well as conditions such as PCOS, difficulty becoming pregnant, post-surgical pain, endometriosis, frequent urinary tract infections, and digestive problems.  All have found relief by using this ancient healing art. The work has also proven effective in relieving symptoms of fibroids and other estrogen dominance issues that are far too common in our society today.

Over the years, I have been graced with many wonderful teachers and the knowledge of many traditional healers. I continue to travel to Belize, Central America annually to further study the healing arts of ancient and contemporary Mayans, passed down from the traditional shaman Don Elijio Panti, to Dr. Rosita Arvigo, to myself. This healing artform, entitled the Arvigo Technique of Maya Abdominal Massage ( see
www.arvigomassage.com), has surpassed all expectations or hopes that I held for it when I first started studying. It has helped me to help my clients achieve their goals beyond what I could imagine possible, while working within the scope of practice of a massage therapist. See the "Abdominal" page for more about Mayan practices.

"If a woman's uterus is out of balance, so is she,"  Don Elijio Panti

"Each direct experience of the vastness of being is a healing which brings us closer to the life spark growing at the center of each cell. Each moment we enter our pain with a merciful awareness  is a moment of healing. Every moment we touch suffering with love we are healed." Stephen Levine
